W Lindsay and Son being a traditional butchers shop offers customers an extensive range of beef, lamb, pork and poultry. It also stocks game and some traditional breeds depending on the season and high quality stock being available from the market.

Traditional Breeds of Pork

Depending on high quality stock being available from the auction we can get the following traditional breeds of pork.

Tamworth – The meat from the Tamworth is slightly darker than that of other breads with a firm skin that creates incredible crackling. This full flavor pork has a good level of marbling and fat, which adds an exceptional depth of flavor and succulence.

Saddleback – Saddlebacks are robust full of flavor and like the Tamworth create excellent crackling. The saddleback is a traditional British breed being a cross between the Wessex and Essex pigs. They mature slowly with a higher fat content which keeps the meat moist and succulent.

Herdwick Lamb

Renowned for its distinctive flavour Herdwick lamb is matured slowly on the Cumbrian fells producing meat with a more gamey flavour than traditional lamb.

Game

Venison, pheasant and other game meats are generally better for you than traditional framed meats as they tend to be low in fat especially saturated fat. During the season the following game can be ordered.

Cumberland Sausage

W Lindsay’s Award Winning Cumberland Sausage is far traveled with visitors taking cool boxes home to all parts of the country. If you want to take bulk orders home we are happy to prepare and vacuum pack orders, so they are ready for you. All you need to do is call the shop and let us know how much Cumberland Sausage you want and how you would like it vac-packed.

Home Made Pies

Lindsay's individual home made pies are available ready to eat at any time of the day straight from our hot top. Alternatively they can be purchased frozen for you to cook yourself at home, making them perfect for a quick hearty supper at the end of a busy day.
